It’s simple, the RARFileSource just unpacks RAR archive files, it doesn’t do any more.
The filter’s configuration is done through the registry and no other registry file is needed.
So just drop RARFileSource into your registry editor and change what you need, most importantly the locations in the key:

I started this project after I noticed how most Windows players have a feature to automatically unpack RAR archives before playback and that’s it. So I wanted to make a small filter that would help us. For the past two years this project has only been a side project, but since I have a good friend that is building a software company from scratch and he needs a DirectShow filter for a freebie I took the plunge and finished it for him. You can use the RARFileSource in your software with no restrictions at all but be careful to know which settings you apply.
I wrote this project as a reference, I don’t know a single RAR archive file format, I don’t know whether what I did is legit, I don’t know whether something else will go wrong and I don’t know if there will be anything else than “Thanks but no thanks”. If you don’t understand it or find a bug please just let me know.
You can download this for free. It’s not finished yet but I’ll try to fix it over the next couple of weeks, fixing bugs and fixing problems. Once it’s done I’ll update this page and it should be done soon.
This file can’t be installed, only copied to your RAR/WinRAR archive and then be loaded manually as a filter.
