1. Wonderfully Compelling Concept – 9/10

I never thought I would play an RPG this old. But, the game, which was released in 2003, is infinitely more enjoyable than the traditional Japanese types I am used to playing. It was all about the interaction and synergy of the characters in this game. You either have to work together with your friends or not. If you do, you will all be part of a bigger plan. In that case, you will all learn from each other’s experience. If not, you will be fighting only against your enemies, with no experience to benefit you in the end. I ended up dying a lot in this game just because I found myself playing solo all the time. There was nothing but myself and a load of monsters trying to kill me. It was a bit depressing at times, but it also allowed me to appreciate the quality of the art, music, and performance. And the lack of depressing side quests makes it all worthwhile, and all the more fun to play.

2. A Group of Friends – 9/10

I managed to find a group of people online through a message board. I am glad that this game is no longer in English. It was enough to make me consider having this game on my hard drive at all. The design of this game does not allow you to play with random people. You have to make sure that your friends would be willing to join and possibly leave before you get everything. And that’s not even about the game’s length, because you will come across other people online who are either still playing or are returning to the game to play once again. I got lucky and found a group of people who were willing to play this game for the time it took to get me up to the game’s last set of dungeons. I got to see the funny things people would do in regards to food and monster level. And that was the best.

3. A Sense of Humor – 9/10

The people I was playing with, although with different goals, managed to find a lot of humor in the game. And a lot of it was probably because of the odd and humorous environments. The first time I played the game, I almost got angry because of the continuous cut-scenes and random menus all over the place.
