Ynglet is a modern indie platform game about a little man. Like most indie platformers, Ynglet won’t remind you much of any other game out there. It seems to me that the most significant thing these games have in common is that their creators are gamers. That means they’re intimately familiar with the limitations of the genre and have some ideas of how to overcome them. And Ynglet is kind of that.
It’s being made by the creator of Knytt and NightSky, Nifflas (aka Nicklas Nygren), and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t already completely in love with the drawn art style.
The simple 2D aesthetic will combine well with the puzzles and the short bursts of platforming, while the non-linearity of the gameplay will offer new possibilities every time you play. You may hear some kind of electronic music at some point in the game, it’s mostly meant for the eerily grim atmosphere and some bigger puzzles. Ynglet will mix platforming and puzzles in order to create a strange, dark and unpredictable journey. The main thing to note is that it’s just a platformer. There are no worlds, no puzzles and no secret paths. It’s as simple as that.
The secret of Ynglet is that it may not be a game.
