It is known that olefins may be prepared by the catalytic dehydrogenation of feedstreams containing olefins, typically oxygenates such as olefins, aldehydes, ketones, alcohols, ethers, etc. It is also known to use catalysts based on metals selected from Group VIII of the Periodic Table of Elements, such as metals selected from the platinum and rhodium series of metals, to catalyse the dehydrogenation of oxygenates to olefins. Such dehydrogenation is typically carried out at a temperature of from about 500° C. to about 650° C., and pressures of from about 25 to about 275 atmospheres, and preferably, from about 50 to about 250 atmospheres. A wide range of noble metal and other catalysts compositions are used in the dehydrogenation process.
Catalysts for the catalytic dehydrogenation of oxygenates to olefins may be based on metals selected from Group VIII of the Periodic Table of Elements, such as metals selected from the platinum and rhodium series of metals, such as platinum, palladium, rhodium, iridium, ruthenium, osmium, gold, rhenium, silver, copper and mixtures thereof, usually dispersed on a support. Ok, so we don’t exactly “Taste” our blog posts. But then again, in real life food is not always served with a silver platter. We choose our images carefully, and usually only post about recipes that we either tasted or at least cooked.
We have lived through the school year, we started summer vacation, we’ve had a new patch on the front door, and we have a deep blue pool that finally feels like it’s warm enough to go in to swim.
When people ask what we’ve been up to, we answer “Cooking.”
It can be frustrating from the residents that we work with. Sometimes the attitude says “I will eat anything” while the diet actually consists of Pop-Tarts, restaurant dining, and cereal bars. Same with the dietary habits… They are determined to remain overweight and eat whatever they want while just taking in anything and everything that enters their house.
I don’t blame them. At this point, I’m sure that I’m not the only one who just wants a normal diet full of fresh fruits and veggies. I have a partner who will eat anything except broccoli. When it comes down to it, what’s best for her, for our kids, and for us is to manage the diet like the new patch on the front door. That patch can easily be sprayed from a neighbor who may have an allergic reaction to the paint.
When we clean out pantry items and sweet goodies like the tempting candy that we grew up eating, I suggest that they feed their need to have fun. Don’t deny them the nuts and raisins, but go through the pantry and only keep the high-nutrient veggies and fruits on hand.
My husband and I have a fine set of cookbooks and one of our favorite meals is a new recipe that we search for every time we think about going to the grocery store. Many of our recipes are quick to make, and everyone–parents included–has a tendency to get sucked in.
It is easy to get sucked in by the plethora of non-nutritious food. But if we as parents lead by example by keeping our hard-won foods in a “stocking room,” and preparing the high-nutrient foods for family meals and snacks, we can be great examples to other families. It will be easier for children to learn and stay on a consistent schedule if they eat foods that are not yet a favorite like broccoli or celery.
